The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has a long political history of change and conflict. Travelers used to trek into the eastern border of the Virunga Mountains to see gorillas. It is no longer safe to do so. Kinshasa, on the south-western border, is a large expansive capital city.
Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), bears witness to a rich music history. With 10 million inhabitants, it is a city of great cultural diversity and considered as the cradle of Congolese rumba, a popular genre of dance music shaped by many international influences.
